LSRDA employees offered festival visitors various activities through which they could get a glimpse into the daily life of a data scientist and learn more about study courses in probability theory and mathematical statistics.
With the help of machine learning models, a classification problem was demonstrated, based on the classification of visitors' drawings into predefined classes.
Visitors could learn about Latvia's import and export indicators by exploring the Power BI data panel, and a similar opportunity was available to explore university applicant data in the Tableau panel.
By solving tricky mathematical statistics and data science tasks, it was possible to find the lock codes in a breakout game, while intuition in probability theory could be tested by completing an interactive quiz.
The opportunity to challenge the head of the LSRDA research group, senior researcher and mathematics professor Jānis Valeinis to a game of chess proved to be one of the most popular activities in the Mathematics Department at the festival.
We invite curious and enthusiastic high school graduates to apply for one of the bachelor's degree programs in the Mathematics Department. The professional bachelor's program "Mathematician Statistician" lasts 4 years and has 45 state-funded places (more info), while the bachelor's program "Mathematics" lasts 3 years and has 35 state-funded places (more info). Applicants who already have a bachelor's degree are invited to apply for the master's program "Mathematics and Data Science" in one of three sub-programs: data science, technology mathematics, or pure mathematics. The program lasts 2 years and has 30 state-funded places (more info).
